Your first appointment

What happens next?

The first appointment is the most important. For some it is the only appointment that is needed. We aim to provide a one-stop appointment wherever possible. For most patients, the first appointment will include the following steps:

1. Some questions and vision tests, tailored to the specific problem, with a vision specialist (orthoptist or ophthalmic nurse).​
2. An examination by the consultant ophthalmologist.
3. A detailed discussion with the ophthalmologist about any findings and what to do next.

For many people the initial appointment will be the first and last. For some, we will recommend glasses or other other simple treatments or medications. For others the future might include additional tests, regular follow-up appointments, or surgery.
