Professional StatementJay is the Associate Professor of Paediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Southampton and a Consultant Ophthalmologist at University Hospital Southampton. He is an internationally recognised expert in general Paediatric Ophthalmology, Paediatric Cataract, Nystagmus and Ophthalmic Genetics. Jay regularly teaches Optometrists, Orthoptists and other Ophthalmologists through a variety of national and international teaching programs/seminar series and has a number of additional regional and national roles including:
Jay also runs a paediatric eye research group with an interest in paediatric eye disorders and genetics with a particular focus on nystagmus and albinism. The group focuses on novel diagnostic modalities and treatment discovery in addition to translation of research findings into clinical services.
Jay's clinical work and research is regularly featured in the media including recent coverage of his work developing new AI technology and a game suite to improve compliance with patching.
