Meet Our orthoptists
Rachel is a highly specialised orthoptist who has supported both Jay and Stephanie since 2016. She has extensive experience in testing vision in children, diagnosing ocular motility disorders and managing double vision. Her interests are in neuro-ophthalmology and amblyopia.
Graduating from The University of Liverpool in 2014, Rachel worked at the Western Sussex Foundation Trust before joining Southampton General Hospital in 2016. Since then, she has become the orthoptic educational lead for the trust. Rachel leads and delivers ocular motility training for both orthoptic and medical undergraduates. She will be completing her Masters in ‘Vision and Strabismus’ in December 2021 having accomplished specialised modules in stroke, insight into disease and research.

Tomos is an experienced orthoptist practicing in Southampton. He examines both adult and paediatric patients with vision problems and squint.
Tomos has been with the team in Southampton since 2018, and previously worked in North Wales after graduating from the University of Liverpool.
He is regularly involved in teaching of undergraduate orthoptic, nursing and medical students at Southampton. Tomos is currently working towards his Masters in Orthoptics.

Daniel is a Research Orthoptist and Pre-Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellow at University Hospital Southampton and University of Southampton. He completed training in orthoptics at the University of Sheffield and has 7 years’ experience treating people with amblyopia (lazy eye), nystagmus, double vision and strabismus. His research interest is about how we can use new technologies and knowledge to improve outcomes for children with amblyopia and reduce health inequalities.
Daniel has been awarded 4 national awards for his research, has presented at several national and international academic conferences and authored 6 peer-reviewed papers. He supervises and mentors undergraduate students from 3 universities (Southampton, Sheffield and Liverpool), and postgraduate students from University College London.
